Bachelor’s Degree in
Religious Studies
The Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies approaches the religious phenomenon in its various social and cultural manifestations. It aims to develop students into critical and ethical professionals equipped with the theoretical and practical skills they need for understanding, analyzing, debating, and problematizing religious issues in an inclusive, interdisciplinary, intercultural perspective. This program seeks to build respect for religious and cultural diversity and to promote a culture of peace in Brazil. In 2018, Ministry of Education (MEC) approved this curriculum as suitable for training teachers of religious education.
This degree is both a qualification and a requirement for teaching religious education in Brazilian schools, whether public or private.
Career applications: In addition to teaching religious education, the graduate of this program can work as a researcher, a consultant, or an advisor in informal teaching spaces, in public and private institutions, in non-governmental organizations, and in confessional entities. This degree also permits the graduate to pursue a master and a doctorate degree.
"I visited Faculdade Unida de Vitória in January 2020 before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. My time at Unida greatly impacted my life in so many ways. For example, I connected with brilliant theological scholars and students who have become good friends today. In addition, my brief stay at Unida gave me the opportunity to co-teach an eight week online course with Prof. Graham McGeoch. Teaching that course as I transitioned back to the United States of America after three months in Brazil was life giving and career affirming. I am more confident in my capabilities as a scholar and love of teaching than I was before I went to Brazil as a result of teaching the online course. When the pandemic is over I plan to return to Unida to visit friends and continue my own scholarship as it is a place to be challenged, affirmed and grow into who one is called to be in the world. I am extremely personally grateful for the amazing work happening at Faculdade Unida de Vitória."
